A Summary Of Walking By Faith

A SUMMARY OF WALKING BY FAITH

A Summary Of Walking By Faith

Many people have talked about Faith and given various definitions but on the whole Faith is a confident persistent relentless Trust in God to do and accomplish what he has promised to do in your life.

In simple terms Faith is looking to God to do what He has promised to do in your life. It is more than convincing yourself that it is going to happen rather it is Trusting that it is God who is going to perform it and bring it to pass in your life. You look not on your abilities but entirely put confidence in God to bring it to pass.

2Cor.1.20 – For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

So when you see or identify a promise of God, your response should be ‘YES LORD’ and ‘AMEN’- let it be so! In Faith we trust God to do. You may not know how it is going to work but you believe and perceive that God is going to do it. You trust that he will bring it to pass because you’re confident that the God who promised is able to bring it to pass.

Abraham was an example in faith;
– As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

  •  [For Abraham, when human reason for] hope being gone, hoped in faith that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been promised, So [numberless] shall your descendants be.
  • He hoped against hope and believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, by God to him.
  • And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
  • He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
    – And being fully persuaded that, what He [GOD] had promised, he was able also to perform.(ROMANS 4:17-21)

The challenge of Faith however is not having sufficient knowledge about what you have believed or who you have believed. The reason why very many find it hard to trust God is because they do not know Him.

If you know little or nothing at all about this God who promised, then you will have some doubt about what he promised because you are not familiar with his integrity, his Intensions and his motivations- If you do not know God; you will not really be so sure that what he promised is true and that he will fulfill it.

2Tim.1.12 – For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Paul was absolutely sure of knowing this God he confessed to have believed. He had experienced him personally through his sufferings and he had interacted with this God by himself that he was now more than sure this God was no longer a mystery or a stranger to Paul.

Therefore it is important for us to endeavor to know this God we have believed on a personal level- not what has been told to us by others: – the knowledge of God has to be experiential and personal so that you can have the basis to trust Him. If believers are to walk in Faith- knowing God is more than important.

We know God through His word and through spending time with Him. God has chosen to reveal Himself to men through his word- the holy scriptures.

Through the scriptures we can know the character and Nature of God- his motivation, his intentions and his INTERGRITY.

John.1.1 says- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Therefore the word is God himself. You cannot know God outside His word. The Bible is an account of how God related to men and His will can be known through the holy scriptures.

Now we can know what kind of personality He is when we read the testimonies of those who experienced Him and recorded His actions and reactions.

And so because Faith is Trusting God; it is imperative that we know this God so we can be able to trust him- God must not be a stranger but a Father whom we love and spend time with- that is the only way we will be able to walk by Faith and believe that he will do what He promised.

Therefore besides knowing God through His word we also need to SPEND TIME IN HIS PRESENCE THROUGH FELLOWSHIP AND PRAYER.

Therefore Faith is confidence in God that He will do what He promised to do. However that confidence comes through knowing Him. That confidence causes us to TRUST Him even more despite what happens to us.

If we are going to know God; we must read-study and meditate on the word then we must also spend time in the presence of God. And by the help of His spirit; God will reveal Himself to us.

It is upon the revelation of who God is which can only be got from His word that our Faith can be built.

Jesus told Peter in Matt.16.17-18 “…, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. – And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

The rock being referred to in the above scripture is Revelation:- The revelation that Peter had got from God had made him solid and firm that he was equated to a rock.
We only get this solid rock Revelation only through reading the Holy scriptures and on that Revelation the church is established.

Jesus is building us up through Revelation in his word. So our Faith will be established through our personal Revelation and knowledge of God.

Until you begin to see God in the scriptures which are animated by the Holy Spirit- you cannot fully be convinced with certainty that God will do what He promised to do. Then after gaining the revelation of who God is then you need to mingle and commune with this God through fellowship and prayer.

Jude.1.20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (KJV)

We use the material of the word of God which we get by revelation from the Holy Spirit to build ourselves up in our most holy faith in praying in the Spirit.
Any man who is to walk by Faith must be a man of the Word and a man of prayer. These are the two pillars that sustain Faith; Without them, your faith is shaky.

The other challenge of Faith comes when a believer is anxious and seeks to understand how God will fulfill His promise.

And yet the Faith walk gets easier when we understand that there are two sides to it; the Natural and the Supernatural or the divine.

The Natural side of Faith is our part we have to play as men while the supernatural side is the role played by God.

The Faith walk becomes a lot easier when we understand that we have to stick to playing our part and leave the Divine to God-We ought to learn to let God be God.

Faith won’t be very complicated if we only mind our own business and let God do his own part. Our part is to believe and Trust God then God’s part is to fulfil and make good on His promises.

Walking by Faith would not be too burdensome if we did not go ahead of God and try to understand how He will do what He has promised to do or if we try to help Him come up with a way to do what He set out to do.
Rather it is better for us to stay in our own lane and let God do His thing the way he chooses to.

When the Angel came to Mary to tell her that she was going to carry the son of God in her womb without her knowing a man. It was too ambiguous for her to understand; nevertheless Mary doesn’t complicate her life trying to figure out how it would be possible, rather she goes ahead to say… let it be unto your servant according to your word.

In otherwards she was saying- ‘I may not understand how it will be but let be unto me as you have said- only you know how- I am just a handmaid at your service- do as you please with me lord’.

The way faith in God works; no man can understand. Faith is not for understanding- it is for believing. You just believe it and leave the ‘How?’ to God. FAITH is complete Trust in God and believing that God will perform.

Matt.19.26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (KJV)

If you can Trust and BELIEVE God- He will Perform. Your part is to Believe and God’s part is to Fulfil. When it looks impossible to you. Trust God and he will do what you see as impossible.

Your Part is to keep hearing and hearing by the word of God.

You hear by someone speaking Faith to you and that someone is sent.

Faith comes by Hearing and hearing by the word of God. It means you have to keep reminding yourself about the promises so that you keep hearing them again and again everyday. Your part is to get into the word so that you get the promises of God. Then keep reminding both yourself and God everyday of the promises and in so doing you keep the hearing of Faith.

After getting the promises from the word of God and confessing them to yourself over and over;- then the next responsibility is for you to go with these promises into the presence of God; and in prayer keep him in remembrance. On the process you edify yourself with the promise and also prophesy it.

Isa.62.6 – 7; I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,

– And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

1Tim.1.18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; (KJV)

Wage war against the enemy using the prophetic declarations in the word of God because the word of God is our sure word of prophecy.

So in summary; your part in the walk of Faith is :-

  1. To read the word and know the promises of God.
  2. To remind yourself continuously of the promises regardless of what transpires. Confess the promises continuously publicly and privately
  3. Pick the promises and enter the prayer chamber reminding God and possessing, personalizing and walking into these promises. Wage a good warfare according to these promises in Prayer. Pray in the promises. Prayer will release and activate power to cause it to be. Claim them declare them; proclaim them, pray in them and soon the witness of the Holy spirit will quicken you and sustain you beyond human understanding.

Read, confess and pray; then wait on God to move you- that is your part. Then soon the Holy spirit will stir you up with conviction about the assurance of God’s GRACE (God gives you strength to believe and keep believing) and very soon manifestation becomes certain even in the Spirit such that Your Faith begins to overflow into Thanksgiving.

Faith (which is the confidence in God) is the victory that overcomes the world. Therefore we should not cast away our Faith which has great recompence of reward.

Trust the God who causes the things that be not as if they are. Your Faith is the hold onto the victory that you are looking for.
